Here are five things to know going into the weekend.
1. BACK ON THE TRACK: The stars will align in Stanford as UW's best hit the track. 2024 Indoor NCAA Mile Runner-up Adam Spencer is slated to compete in the 1500 meters alongside a strong Badger freshman duo. Andrew Casey and Bryce Stachewicz will open their outdoor campaigns in the event. Casey won the UW sportsmanship honor at Big Ten Indoor Championships thanks to his personal best fourth-place finish in the 800 meters.
2. KEEP ON RUNNIN': Aside from Spencer, another indoor first-team All-American will compete this weekend. Jackson Sharp, a native of Australia, begins his season in the 5000 meters. He finished third in the event at the 2023 Outdoor NCAA Championships and is a back-to-back Big Ten Indoor Champion. He will race alongside Tulsa transfer Johnny Livingstone, Benjamin Nibbelink and Logan Measner, among others.
3. OFF THE BLOCKS: Two sprinters return to the start blocks in Baton Rouge this weekend: Jalen Williams and Giovanni Wearing. Both come off strong indoor seasons. Williams broke the school record in the 400 meters at the 2024 Indoor Big Ten Championships while finishing second. He will race in the 400 meters on Saturday at 1:15 p.m. Wearing won the 2024 Big Ten Indoor Championships in the 60-meter hurdles. He will compete in the 110-meter high hurdles at 12:50 p.m. on Saturday.
4. LAUNCH PARTY: The UW throwers return to LSU for the second weekend in a row. Jacob Bugella starred last weekend, setting a personal record in the hammer throw at 201-6 (61.45m). The mark ranks No. 9 on the UW top 10 list. Jason Swarens will debut this weekend after a very successful indoor season. He placed No. 4 in the shot put at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships, earning first-team All-American. Swarens is set to kick off his weekend in the shot put on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
5. UP NEXT: The Badgers continue their west coast trip Thursday for two meets. Select athletes will head to Long Beach for the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate meet while others travel to Azusa for the Bryan Clay Invitational.
