Huss to represent Badgers at national tournament
MADISON, Wis. – Cameron Huss is headed to Carlsbad, California, to represent Wisconsin men's golf at the 2024 NCAA Divison I Men's Golf Championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. The senior will play 54 holes from Friday, May 24 to Sunday, May 26, for the chance to qualify for an additional 18 holes on Monday, May 27.
Here are five things to know before this Badger tees off:
1. Last Time Out: Cameron Huss qualified for the 2024 NCAA Golf Championships after finishing five-under par at the NCAA Regional tournament. After ending the third round in a three-way tie following regulation play, Huss won the sudden-death tiebreaker stretching into five holes to earn his first career qualification to the national tournament in California. The Wisconsin senior shot 211 (66-74-74) at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, which tied the best 54-hole score recorded by a Badger at an NCAA tournament, previously set by Ron Wuensch in 1991 when he won the Central Regional with 69-72-70=211. Huss became the first Badger since Dan Woltman to qualify for the NCAA Championship. Woltman qualified in 2008 after finishing T19 (71-68-79=218) at the NCAA West Regional to advance.
2. The Course: The Omni La Costa Resort & Spa will host the championship on their esteemed North Course, which plays at 7,538 yards as a par 72. The North Course features Bentgrass greens set along exaggerated rolling hills and picturesque wetlands. The course was recently renovated by the popular design duo Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner, and it will be the site of both the men's and women's NCAA championships through 2026.
3. The Tournament: The 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship will be played from Friday, May 24 to Wednesday, May 29. All 30 teams and six individuals will complete 54 holes from Friday to Sunday. The top 15 teams and the top nine individuals not on those advancing teams will advance for one additional day of stroke play on Monday to determine the top eight teams for match play competition and the individual champion after 72 holes. On Friday, No. 2 seed Huss will tee off Hole 1 at 4:12 p.m. CT, while his Saturday tee time is set for 10:52 a.m. CT off of Hole 10.
4. The Field: The tournament field will include a total of 30 teams and six individuals, including Huss who will be representing the Badgers as an individual. Teams competing in the championship include Auburn, Vanderbilt, North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida State, Texas, Virginia, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Arizona, Illinois, Florida, Georgia Tech, East Tennessee State, California, Texas A&M, New Mexico, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Stanford, Wake Forest, Notre Dame, Baylor, Ohio State, North Florida, LSU, SMU, Clemson, West Virginia and Utah.
