Syracuse stand-out enjoyed great freshman season
MADISON, Wis. – Adding to its impressive core of young players, Wisconsin softball adds Makenzie Foster to the roster, announced by Badger head coach Yvette Healy Thursday.
Â
Foster finished up her freshman season with Syracuse, who sported a 28-23 overall record in the ACC. The five-foot-three infielder primarily played at second base.
Â
"We're excited to add Makenzie Foster's speed, athleticism and competitive fire to the Badger softball program," said head coach Yvette Healy. Makenzie is a lefty slapper and middle infielder from Bill Conroy's Beverly Bandits program, who brings with her a year of ACC experience as a starting second basemen and lead off hitter at Syracuse."
Â
The infielder provided an immediate impact for the Orange in her freshman season. She started in 44 of her 48 games played, and accumulated a .294 batting average in those games, the third highest on the team. In addition, Foster also demonstrated good plate discipline with her 19 walks making up a .396 on-base percentage. One of her standout moments came against conference opponent Georgia Tech, where she won the game on a walk-off double, the first double of her career.
Â
Hailing from Columbus (Ind.), Foster enjoyed a fantastic high school career at Columbus East in Indiana. She posted a .535 career batting average and set a school record for stolen bases with 89. She also earned multiple All-Conference selections, an Indiana South All Star Team appearance, and a spot on the All-State First Team.
