Symbolic Chair of Honor remembers American heroes
MADISON, Wis. – Camp Randall Stadium's military connection has deep roots. A former Union Army training camp during the Civil War, more than 70,000 troops trained on the Camp Randall grounds. Beginning with the 2024 season, that military connection will be strengthened with the introduction of a Prisoner of War and Missing in Action Chair of Honor.
Positioned on the Summit Credit Union Fifth Quarter Patio of the South End Zone, the Chair of Honor is dedicated to those American heroes that are still POW/MIA. The empty seat symbolizes that there will always be a place in Camp Randall stadium awaiting their return.
"It is an honor for Wisconsin Athletics and, in particular Wisconsin Football, to host the Prisoner of War and Missing in Action Chair of Honor in Camp Randall Stadium," Athletic Director Chris McIntosh said. "These American heroes are indeed not forgotten and it is our privilege to commemorate their commitment to our freedom inside our historic venue."

"Having our UW MIA RIP logo on the plaque speaks volumes about the university's commitment to our fallen heroes," said Doug Bradley, chair of the UW MIA Board of Advisors. "UW-Madison was the first academic institution in the United States to partner with the Department of Defense office responsible for recovering and repatriating the remains of the thousands of missing U. S. service members. They will never be forgotten, and we will continue to do all we can to bring them home."
Heat and Housing for Heroes and Gruber Law Offices will also recognize a Veteran of the Game for each home football game, granting a unique experience in gratitude of their service. University of Wisconsin Student Veteran Clayton Liebherr is among seven veterans who will be recognized this season as honorary guests.
"It's humbling and an honor to be next to the M.I.A./P.O.W. seat, which recognizes prisoners of war and those who never made it back home to their country and loved ones," Liebherr said. "This means a great deal to me and many others, and I couldn't be more proud to be a student veteran here at UW-Madison."
Next to the symbolic Chair of Honor is a plaque that reads:
THEY ARE NOT FORGOTTEN
