MADISON, Wis. —
Riccardo Greppi (pronounced rih-car-doe grep-EE) has signed to attend the University of Wisconsin and play basketball for the Badgers beginning this season, as announced by head coach
Greg Gard on Friday.
The 6-foot-10 freshman from Italy played for Verona in the Italy-NextGen league, appearing in eight games and averaging 9.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest.
"We are excited to add Riccardo to our program," Gard said. "With his size, strength and skillset, he adds great depth to our frontcourt. As the landscape of college athletics continues to shift, we are in a strong position here at Wisconsin – both academically and athletically – to attract some of the best student-athletes in the world.
"Riccardo will be a great fit with our program. We look forward to getting him here with us soon at Wisconsin and welcoming him to the Badger Family."
Two standout performances for Greppi included a 17-point, 12-rebound performance in a Verona win over Brescia, while in another win grabbing 17 rebounds (5 offensive boards), plus eight points and two blocked shots in a win over Virtus BO.
Greppi has national team experience playing for Italy. At the 2023 Under-18 European Championships, he played in seven games averaging 2.3 points (43.8% FG) and 3.6 rebounds. In the 2022 U18 European Championships, Greppi averaged 2.4 points (50% FG) and 4.2 rebounds playing an average of 10 minutes per contest.
