Freshman clinches second award of the season
MADISON, Wis. – Freshman Maggie Wanezek of the Wisconsin women's swim and dive team was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, as announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon.Â
The freshman completed the final dual meet of the season with three wins, including an NCAA "B" cut in her only individual and earning an "A" cut in the 400 medley relay.Â
Wanezek won the 200 back with a time of 1:53.69, beating out the second place finisher by almost three seconds. In both relays, Wanezek earned first place finishes, as the backstroke leg in the 400 medley relay, with a split of 51.55, as the relay finished with a time of 3:29.84 for an NCAA "A" cut. In the 200 free relay, the freshman split a 22.37 as the third leg of the relay.
This marks the Wisconsin native's second Big Ten Freshman of the Week award of the season.Â
Up next, the Badgers will prepare for the Badger Invite on Feb. 7-8 at Soderholm Aquatic Center.
