Throwers, relays conclude impressive weekend

NEW YORK - The Wisconsin women's track and field program made its presence felt at both the Dr. Sander Invitational and the Fighting Illini Invite on Saturday, accumulating four wins between the two meets.

It started with the throwers, who continue to heave their way into the top-10 of UW's Indoor Track history with standout performances.

Danni Langseth wound up winning the shot put event in New York at the Dr. Sander Invitational, breaking her own personal record that she set a couple of weeks ago at the Wisconsin Midwest Invite with a toss of 53 feet 9 ¼ inches (16.39m).

Zonica Lindeque was right behind her, following it up with a furthest throw of 52-5 ½ (15.99m), good for ninth all-time at Wisconsin. Those two top-10 records come after the throwing unit had two more individuals enter their names into the top-10 in the weight throw—Taylor Kesner and Chikere Oduocha

As for the runners in New York, the relay group continued to put together quality runs—earning gold in the 4x400 relay. Emma Kelley, Emma Kruse, Mya Bunke and Kiley Robbins turned in a time of 3:54.89 to impress at The Armory.

In Illinois, Elissa Perkins and Kylie Finger emerged as the biggest winners of the day in their respective events.

Perkins found her rhythm in the triple jump—finishing with a leap of 40-0 ½ (12.20m). The sophomore won the event by nearly five feet, as the next closest individual turned in a jump of 35-11 ¼ (10.95m).

Finger notched her first victory of the season in the mile, where the Oconomowoc native covered the distance in 4:54.23 to push past the competition.

Up Next: The Badgers will look to continue to build on their midseason success at the Terrier Classic and the Lenny Lyles Invitational, hosted by Boston University and Louisville, respectively. Those meets will take place on both Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1.
