MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's tennis team took on Western Michigan on Friday night in front of a strong crowd at Nielsen Tennis Stadium, battling to a 4-3 win. After Western Michigan claimed the doubles point, UW was propelled to the win behind singles victories by Patrik Meszaros (No. 3), Matthew Fullerton (No. 4), Edouard Aubert (No. 5) and Sachiv Kumar (No. 6).

Doubles play was competitive to start the dual match, with all three courts locked in tight matches. Eventually, the nationally ranked pair of Jack Davison and Brogan Pierce claimed a 6-4 win at No. 1 and the Broncos clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory at No. 2.

In singles action, freshmen Patrik Meszaros (No. 3) and Edouard Aubert (No. 5) stayed perfect in dual play, each improving to 4-0 with straight-set victories. In his first action at No. 3 singles, Meszaros dominated, winning 6-3, 6-0. After Friday night's win, Aubert has lost only one set in singles play during his 4-0 start to the season. 

At No. 4, Matthew Fullerton cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 win over Western Michigan's Jack Davison, pushing UW to the brink of clinching the match. 

After Wisconsin claimed wins at No. 3, 4 and 5, the deciding point came down to Kumar's match at No. 6. Kumar forced a third set with a 6-4 win in the second frame, and eventually outlasted Western Michigan's Alex Antonopoulos, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 to give Wisconsin the match victory. 

Wisconsin improved to 12-5 overall against Western Michigan. The Badgers are now on a four-match win streak against the Broncos.

Up Next: The Badgers are back in action on Sunday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium. First serve with Drake is set for 11 a.m. and admission is free for fans. The match is the fifth of six straight home matches to start the 2025 spring season.
