No. 7 Badgers falter against No. 19 Penn State in top-20 battle

Nittany Lions snap UW's 10-match winning streak

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The No. 7 Wisconsin women's volleyball team fell to No. 19 Penn State in straight sets (20-25, 21-25,16-25) at Rec Hall to snap a 10-match winning streak.

The Nittany Lions (9-6, 3-2) handed the Badgers (11-2, 4-1) their first conference loss of the season with the help of a quick start in set one, getting out to an 14-7 advantage with the help of big swings from outside hitter Kennedy Martin and a couple of service aces. Penn State used that early momentum to cruise to a 20-25 victory in the first set.

A flurry from middle blocker Carter Booth provided a spark in the second set, as the Badgers and Nittany Lions went back-and-forth. UW earned it's first lead of set two at 13-12 with the help of a kill from outside hitter Mimi Colyer

The Nittany Lions continued to provide a physical presence on the front line to get Wisconsin out of system—securing six of the last eight rallies to put away the Badgers and take a 2-0 advantage.

UW provided a quick response in set three, utilizing a 6-0 burst to take an 8-4 lead right away. Middle blocker Alicia Andrew earned a solo block in the process.

Penn State was able to find their rhythm once again though, rattling off five-straight points to tie the match at 10-10. From there, the Nittany Lions continued to keep their foot on the gas—taking seven of eight points with the help of a couple of attack errors to help close out the match.

Right side Madison Quest led the Badgers with 10 kills, a career-best. Setter Addy Horner earned career-bests with 26 assists and eight digs as well. Wisconsin went on to swing for it's second-lowest hitting percentage of the season at .151 (32 - 18 - 93).
