ERIN, Wis. — The Wisconsin men's golf team is tied for seventh after day 1 of the Marquette Intercollegiate on Sunday, shooting +25 at the ever-tasking Erin Hills in Erin, Wisconsin. UW remains 10 strokes off the lead, pacing the tightly contested field in Par 3 average at 3.30 with senior Spencer Turtz in the top-10 and three strokes off the lead.
The Charlotte native sits 10th, going +14 on the card. He ranks fourth in the pack on Par 4 averages at +1 (4.10). Turtz was one-of-five to birdie Hole 3, a hole warranting more bogeys than pars on the day.
Sophomore William Harned finished his day in 30th at +6, putting together an even front-nine to fuel the day. In his first collegiate start, true freshman Vijay Jumar joined Harned in the top-40, finishing one stroke behind at +7. He was one-of-16 players to birdie the notorious 637-yard 18th hole.
Verona native Charles Erlandson was key toward UW's success on Par 3s, earning pars on all four holes. He ultimately for the Badgers at +8, sitting in 49th. Senior Jacob Beckman rounded out the Wisconsin lineup at +9 and in 55th.
Two other Badgers took the course Sunday, competing individually. Sophomore Drew Sacia comes off a strong final round at September's Badger Invitational, and is +10 on the day. Jason Shwartz is in the clubhouse at +14 in his first action in over a year due to injury. A top-30 recruit out of high school, Shwartz was one-of-five to birdie Hole 14 on Sunday.
