Amos' 11-2 win clinches victory in final bout
STOUGHTON, Wis. - Wisconsin wrestling improved its dual record to 3-0, battling Bucknell to a 19-15 victory this Tuesday at Stoughton High School. The Badgers are now 3-0 for the first time since 2021-22.
Tied up at 15-15 heading into the final bout, Braxton Amos' major decision sealed the victory for the Badgers. Wrestlers Nicolar Rivera and Luke Mechler each enjoyed victories at their former high school, with assistant coach Garrett Model also formerly suiting up for Stoughton.
The Badgers jumped to an early lead after back-to-back victories from Nicolar Rivera and Zan Fugitt. Rivera, a Stoughton native, jumped to a 16-2 lead in period one of the 125 bout. He finished his homecoming with a 17-11 decision to get the Badgers on the board.
Zan Fugitt held his opponent scoreless through two periods in the 133 weight class, ultimately winning 13-1 for a major decision.
At 149, Joseph Zargo rebounded from a scoreless first period, recording four takedowns in the second to go up 12-4 and secure the only tech fall of the match with a 22-6 victory.
Luke Mechler showed out in his old high school as well, battling for all three periods in a tough 157 matchup. Mechler scored four points to edge out his opponent 4-0.
Bucknell began its comeback, winning four-straight bouts to even up the score at 15 apiece - setting up a decisive heavyweight bout.
Braxton Amos came out the gates ready to win, bursting out to a 7-0 lead halfway through the second period. His 11-2 major decision ultimately won the match for the Badgers, 19-15.

Wisconsin heads out east for a weekend of New York duals. The Badgers will take on Army on Saturday, December 6 at 6 p.m. and Hofstra on Sunday, December 7 at 1 p.m.
