Wisconsin beats Mercyhurst 5-1
NASHVILLE. — The No.1 Wisconsin women's hockey team advanced, 5-1, against Mercyhurst in the SMASHVILLE Women's Collegiate Hockey Showcase
Four Badgers scored to improve Wisconsin's record to 15-1-1.
Lacey Eden put Wisconsin on the scoreboard with 11Â 52 remaining in the first period, off an assist from Caroline Harvey.Â
Adéla Šapovalivová found the back of the net in the second period to double the Badgers' score and make it 2-0. Freshman Šapovalivová received the puck from Kirsten Simms to score her sixth goal of the season.Â
Eden seemingly scored again, but the goal was called off. When Eden got back out on the ice during the Badger power play, she made sure to score again and collected her second goal of the night.Â
Kelly Gorbatenko then received a pass from Harvey to make the score 4-0 with 5:42 remaining in the second.
To close out the second period of play, senior Kirsten Simms scored Wisconsin's fifth goal of the game.
In the third, senior goaltender Chloe Baker went in net for Wisconsin where she saved seven shots. Baker took over from Ava McNaughton, who started the game and collected eight shots.
