Freshman collects her first award
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin women's swim and dive freshman Brooke Corrigan earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
The freshman collected individual event wins in Wisconsin's win over the Illinois Fighting Illini on Saturday, highlighted by a personal best in the 100 breast. The freshman touched the wall in 59.73 as the only finisher in the event to break the 1-minute mark.
Corrigan also collected a first place finish in the 200 breast in 2:09.43, just shy of her lifetime best. The Illinois native also swam a 59.18 split in the breaststroke leg to help the 400 medley relay team to a first-place finish.
This marks Corrigan's first award of her collegiate career.
Looking ahead, the swimmers return to action after the break for a tri-meet against UCLA and UCSD and the divers compete in a dual against FIU on Jan. 3.
