Badgers fall 77-73 in overtime to Oregon

Tonje scores 22 in setback

MADISON, Wis. - The No. 11 Wisconsin men's basketball team dropped a game to the Oregon Ducks on Saturday, falling 77-73 in overtime.

The Badgers led by 15 points in the second half, before the Ducks came back late to force overtime. Wisconsin was unable to convert its late shots, sealing the victory for Oregon.

John Tonje led the team with 22 points, securing seven rebounds as well. Steven Crowl scored 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field. Nolan Winter scored 11 points. Max Klesmit and Kamari McGee scored eight and seven points, respectively, all coming in the second half.

Wisconsin took control late in the first half, with a 19-2 run that began with a dunk from Carter Gilmore. It was John Tonje who continued the push though, scoring 16 points in the next six minutes of play.

Oregon came back into the game late in the second half, with a 13-2 run in the last six minutes.

A quick tempo played a key component in building the Badger lead, scoring 15 points on the fast break in the first half. Tonje scored 11 of those points himself, featuring a highlight steal-and-slam that brought the Kohl Center to its feet.

The Badgers carried over strong post-play from their last game, with the teams first eight buckets coming in the paint. UW outrebounded Oregon, and took advantage of mismatches down low. The team finished with 40 points in the paint, shooting 23-for-37 on 2-point attempts.

Wisconsin had an uncharacteristic long range shooting night, finishing 7-for-28 behind the arc. The Badgers endured physical play from Oregon as well, failing to draw any free throws in the second half of play. UW finished the game 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
