MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Wisconsin men's swim and dive team earned a silver medal and set a new school record with a time of 1:15.02 in the 200 free relay to close out Day 2 of the Big Ten Championship meet on Thursday night.
The 200 free relay team of
Taiko Torepe-Ormsby,
Cooper Scharff,
Ben Wiegand and
Chris Morris set a Big Ten meet record and new school record, taking down the previous one set in 2024.
In the first individual event of the day,
Yigit Aslan advanced to the A-final heat, as the only Badger in that heat. He finished with a time of 4:19.47 in 8th-place to start off the night for Wisconsin.
Yoav Romano and
Charlie Jones placed 11th and 13th in the consolation heat.
Luukas Vainio and
Zach Ward finished 22nd and 24th, respectively,
Finishing 11th in the 200 IM with a time of 1:43.09, Morris led the Badgers.
Dominik Mark Torok finished 18th, while
Landon Kyser came in 24th.
In the final individual event of the night, Torepe-Ormsby finished 9th with a time of 18.93 in the 50 freestyle. He missed the A-final by one-hundredth of a second, after being crowned the champion in the 50 freestyle last year at Big Tens. His time this year would've put him in fourth place in the A-final.
Competition resumes on Friday, with prelims set to begin at 10 am and finals at 5 p.m. Day two includes the 100 butterfly, 400 IM, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 3-meter diving and the 400 medley relay.
