Badgers finish Chanticleer Showdown with run-rule win

Wisconsin takes down Bowling Green, 10-2

CONWAY, S.C. – The Wisconsin softball team (13-7) won its final game of the Chanticleer Showdown, powering its way to a 10-2 six-inning victory over Bowling green.

The Badgers collected a season-high 14 hits on the day, and combined for eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Entering the fifth, the Badgers led Bowling Green 2-1, before pouring onto their lead in a big way.

With a runner on, Emmy Wells smoked her second home run in three games, adding two to Wisconsin's total.

The Badgers then capitalized on an error and an RBI-single from Brooke Kuffel to score another two. To cap-off the inning, Hannah Conger roped an RBI-double, the fifth and final run of the inning.

The next inning put the Badgers into run-rule territory. With two singles to lead-off the inning, Hilary Blomberg stepped up and homered to right center field, extending the lead to 10-1.

An unearned run in the bottom of the frame was the only score Bowling Green could muster in retaliation, with Wisconsin closing things out, 10-2.

Gabi Salo earned the victory, improving her record to 6-3. Salo had a shaky first inning, giving up three hits, including a solo home run, to put the Badgers in an early 1-0 deficit. The grad locked in afterwards, allowing a single hit in the next 3.0 shutout innings.

Shelby Jacobson pitched in relief during the fifth, posting a scoreless inning. Freshman Jordan Felci closed things out in sixth, allowing an unearned run off a double.

Hilary Blomberg drove in the Badger's final run in the fifth inning, scoring Emma King on a single.

Wisconsin initially tied things up, and took the lead, in the second and third innings. UW utilized small ball to score its first run of the game, laying down a bunt, and then hitting a single and a sacrifice fly to score a lead off walk.

The go-ahead run scored in the third inning, after a bunt brought home Molly Schlosser - who reached third on a triple.

The Badgers finished the Chanticleer Showdown 4-1, averaging 6.0 runs per game.
