COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Wisconsin men's track and field team kicked off an exciting weekend of competition with two top-3 records and three top-10 finishes, competing at the 44 Farms Team Invite in College Station, Texas and the UW-Platteville Invite at Platteville, Wisconsin.
Down south,
Joseph White highlighted the day with a throw of 192 feet, 9 inches (58.76m) in the discus, finishing third overall. The senior now places second all-time in Wisconsin history. Jake Schafer also competed, placing 25th with a throw of 46-3 (44.59m).
In the pole vault, senior
Hunter Cook cleared 15-5 (4.70m) to secure a ninth-place finish.
Jacob Zednik made his mark in the javelin, launching a throw of 227-2 (69.25m) to take sixth place in the event and earn the third-best mark in program history.
Meanwhile, not too far from home at the UW-Platteville Invite,
Nick Gilles and
Micah Wilson dominated in the 5000 meters, finishing 1-2 in a pack of 274 runners. Freshman Gilles clocked a winning time of 13:58.39, while Wilson was close behind in second at 14:00.68.
Up Next: The Badgers look to build on their strong performances as both meets continue to Saturday. Action begins at 11:30 a.m. in Texas and 1:00 p.m. in Wisconsin.
