MADISON, Wis. – After taking the series against rival Minnesota, the Wisconsin softball team (30-17, 10-9) travels to Evanston to face Northwestern on Friday. The three-game series ends a streak of 10 home games for Wisconsin, and concludes conference play in the regular season.Â
Game one begins at 4 p.m., game two starts at 2 p.m., and game three is set for 1:30 p.m. All three games stream on Big Ten Plus.
1. MINNESOTA RECAP – The Badgers earned a series victory over Minnesota, taking the first two games of their series. UW put up 19 runs in three games, including a 9-6 victory in game one that saw home runs from
Ellie Hubbard and
Kendra Lewis. Two swings accounted for most of the runs for Wisconsin in its 6-4 game two win - a two-run homer from
Emily Bojan and a bases clearing triple from Dani Lucey. It's the first series UW has taken a series over Minnesota since April of 2016.
2. BIG TEN BLOMBERG – Sophomore
Hilary Blomberg continued her successful season this past weekend, going 4-for-7 in the victories over the Gophers. Blomberg now extends her season OPS to 1.003, eclipsing the 1.000 point mark for the second straight season. The sophomore really amps up her production when facing conference opponents. Blomberg has a slashline of .356/.441/.797, against Big Ten opponents this season, and her seven home runs in those games are tied for the second most in program history. Â Â
3. 30-WIN MARK – Wisconsin's second victory of the series brought up the team's season win total to 30. The last time the Badgers won 30 games in a season was 2022 when the team went 30-21 with a NCAA Tournament appearance. Head coach
Yvette Healy now has eight 30-win seasons under her belt. Since 2013, Wisconsin has reached the NCAA Regional round every time the team has won 30 games.
4. NEXT UP NORTHWESTERN – The Badgers next opponent are the Northwestern Wildcats, who are 25-15-1 (12-4 Big Ten) this season. The Wildcats are riding a five game winning streak, including a sweep over Rutgers, and wins over in-state opponents Loyola Chicago and UIC. NU finished as the conference's top team last season, and currently sit fourth in the standings.The Wildcats are well-balanced, with four players sporting an average over .320. Wisconsin trails in the all-time series, 45-21, with Northwestern winners of the last 11 games.. Â
5. MOLLY MASHES THE WILDCATS – One player with experience against Northwestern is
Molly Schlosser, who's played the Wildcats four times in her career. Her most notable performance against NU came in 2023, where she went 3-for-4 with a seventh-inning, game-tying home run - the first homer of her career. Schlosser comes into this series hot, going 9-for-17 during her current five game hit streak. The senior is currently sporting a career-high average of .340.
