MADISON, Wis. - Ariel Johnson of the Wisconsin women's tennis team has been nominated for the Ann Lebedeff Leadership Award by the ITA. This award is given out to a recent college graduate who demonstrated leadership for their team and community. Johnson is nominated along with Ella Brissett of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Vanessa Mellynchuk of the University of Alabama, Birmingham.
Johnson has been fantastic on and off the court this season, making her the perfect candidate for the award. She finished up the regular season with an outstanding 13-2 singles record and 12-3 doubles record while being ranked 48th in the nation for doubles alongside partner Maria Sholokhova. As a Senior, Johnson has been one of the veteran leaders of the team, constantly providing energy that the rest of the team feeds off of.
While she has been impressive on the court, Johnson has also been a fantastic student and leader in the community. She has worked with various mental health organizations such as the National Alliance on Mental Illness and Badger Spill. Johnson is pursuing a career as a social worker after discovering her passion for clinical therapy.
