Badgers fall at home to Terps, 27-10

UW drops conference opener to Maryland

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin football team opened Big Ten Conference play with a 27-10 setback to Maryland on Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium.

The Terrapins (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) scored first thanks to a 1-yard TD run by QB Malik Washington. Maryland tacked on another score early in the second quarter on a 9-yard touchdown pass to receiver Shaleak Knotts, before making two field goals to take a 20-0 lead into half.

The Badgers (2-2, 0-1 Big Ten) got on the board in the third quarter thanks to a 33-yard kick from Nathanial Vakos following an 8-play 31-yard drive. The drive was set up by a Tyrell Henry 35-yard punt return that put UW in great field position. 

 Maryland added a touchdown in the fourth quarter to take a 27-3 lead before Hunter Simmons found Lance Mason for a 13-yard touchdown pass with 28 seconds left in the game. It marked Simmons' first TD toss as a Badger. 
  
Trech Kekahuna led the Badger offense with 5 catches for 77 yards, including a 45-yard reception in the first quarter. 
 
Christian Alliegro was a standout on defense with 7 tackles, including 5 solo stops. 
 
Maryland outgained Wisconsin 323-296. 
 
After a bye week, Wisconsin hits the road to take on No. 21 Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 4 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
