Wisconsin falls to #20 Michigan on the road

Badgers outlasted by the Wolverines

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Wisconsin Badgers were outlasted on the road by the No. 20 Michigan Wolverines, 24-10, at Michigan Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Wisconsin offense set the tone of the game early by opening with an electric 12-play, 75-yard touchdown drive after Michigan deferred the opening kickoff. Led by a balanced attack through the ground and the air, the Badgers were able to get their first opening drive Touchdown of the season on a 5 yard run from Dilin Jones.

Michigan answered quickly with a score of their own from transfer running back Justice Haynes, knotting the game up at 7-7 with 6:02 left in the first quarter. Both defenses forced punts in the ensuing possessions, holding the score at 7-7 through the first quarter.

Michigan tallied the first score of the 2nd quarter with a 32-yard field goal from Dominic Zvada giving the Wolverines their first lead of the game at 10-7. The rest of the second quarter was a defensive stalemate that saw each team jostling for field position. Wisconsin outgained the Wolverines 152-142 in the first half and continued to dominate time of possession 18:56-11:04.

The third quarter began with a methodical Michigan drive that entered the Wisconsin red zone, but the Badgers defense held strong, holding them to a field goal attempt. A low snap led to a missed field goal from 27 yards away, keeping the score at 10-7, Michigan.

From there, the Badgers could not get into a rhythm on offense while Michigan found their stride, scoring a pair of second half touchdowns to make the score 24-7.

Wisconsin had a promising drive late in the fourth quarter, but were ultimately stopped, leading to a chip-shot field goal from kicker Nathaniel Vakos to make the final score 24-10.

Up next, Wisconsin returns to Camp Randall for a homecoming match up with the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday, October 11, at 6 p.m.
