UW garners individual recognition after strong play

MADISON, Wis. - After winning matches this past Wednesday and Sunday, the No. 7 Wisconsin volleyball team garnered three of the weekly awards from the Big Ten, as senior Mimi Colyer was named the Player of the Week, sophomore Charlie Fuerbringer notched Setter of the Week and senior Carter Booth earned Defensive Player of the Week.

The Badgers swept their in-state rivals in Marquette (25-15, 25-14, 25-18) at the Fiserv Forum, and followed it up with a victory against No. 15 Florida (19-25, 25-22, 25-20, 36-34) at the Kohl Center Classic to cap off an eventful non-conference slate.

Colyer was at the center of it all for the Badgers both offensively and defensively in their two matches, beginning with a strong showing against the Golden Eagles. The 6-foot-3 outside hitter racked up 5.71 kills per set during the week, highlighted by a season-best 27 against the Gators in the Kohl Center—adding 14 digs to notch her second double-double of the year. Colyer finished with a hitting percentage of .550 (13 - 2 - 20) versus Marquette, too.

The Lincoln, California, native has recorded double-digit kills in all eight matches for the Badgers, and currently leads the NCAA in kills per set at 5.35—recording her second consecutive Big Ten Player of the Week honor.

Setting her up for success on the offensive end was Fuerbringer, who also won her second-straight Big Ten Setter of the Week award after a pair of strong showings.

The sophomore began the week by turning in an efficient 32 assists on 55 total attempts (.582), one of her top marks on the year. Fuerbringer followed it up with a season-best, racking up 50 assists versus the Gators. Entering this week, Fuerbringer leads the Big Ten and lands in fifth in the NCAA with 11.40 assists per set.

Booth joins Colyer and Fuerbringer as the third Badger to win a weekly award from the Big Ten this season, as the 6-foot-7 senior was a force in the middle for Wisconsin this past week.

The Denver, Colorado, native totaled 12 blocks on the week—including a season-high nine against Florida on Sunday. Booth guided the Badgers to their best blocking performance of the year, as the team finished with 17 in total to secure the 3-1 victory.

The middle blocker finished the two matches with 1.71 blocks per set, in addition to her 11 kills on 25 attempts—concluding the week with only one hitting error.

Viewers can catch the Badgers back in action this week, as they begin conference play with a home match-up versus Rutgers at 7:00 p.m. CT at the UW Field House. The match will be streamed on B1G+.
