Strong offensive output leads to conference recognition

MADISON, Wis. - After a 2-0 week, outside hitter Mimi Colyer and setter Charlie Fuerbringer of the Wisconsin volleyball team earned conference awards, as Colyer was awarded the Big Ten Player of the Week and Fuerbringer garnered the Big Ten Setter of the Week. This marks the second weekly Big Ten award for both Colyer and the fourth for Fuerbringer in their respective careers. 

Colyer has been the catalyst in the offense for the Badgers through the first six matches, as she leads the conference in kills per set at 5.21, with the next highest at 4.59. In NCAA ranks, Colyer slots in at No. 2 in the country. The outside hitter has risen to the top in points per set as well, checking in at an average of 5.63 points through 19 sets.

The senior currently holds a .349 hitting percentage, racking up double-digit kills in all six of the Badgers' matches so far. She recently turned in 19 kills against No. 21 Georgia Tech on the road, and finished with a season-high .600 hitting percentage against Milwaukee this past Tuesday—concluding the two matches with a combined three errors to lead Wisconsin to a pair of sweeps on the week. Colyer averaged 5.83 kills per set an an average of 6.25 points per set in the two wins.

Fuerbringer has been more of the same for UW to begin the season, hitting her stride on the offensive end. She has totaled 40 or more assists in half of their matches, including against the Yellow Jackets this past Friday. The sophomore earned her 15th career double-double with 40 assists and 10 digs to power the Badgers past Georgia Tech on the road, where they turned in their third-highest hitting percentage in a three-set match in program history. 

The Hermosa Beach, California, native is just 27 assists away from 1,500 in just her second season at the collegiate level.
