Wisconsin aims to improve to 11–1 at home
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's basketball team (12-7, 4-4 B1G) will host the No. 24 Nebraska Cornhuskers (14-4, 3-4 B1G) at the Kohl Center on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will stream on B1G+.
Here are five things to Know before the Badgers face the Cornhuskers.
1. DESTINY HOWELL'S SCORING SURGE:
Destiny Howell delivered a career performance in the 2OT win vs. Oregon, scoring 39 points—the third-highest single-game total in program history. She set a UW record with 10 made three-pointers (10-of-16) and went 9-of-11 at the free-throw line, with her 10 threes tying the third-best single-game mark in Big Ten history, and now leads the team with 14.5 points per game while shooting 46.1% from the field.
2. SCOUTING THE HUSKERS:
The Huskers enter the game with a 14-4 overall record and 3-4 in Big Ten play.
Led by 10th-season head coach Amy Williams, they average 83.6 points per game and shoot 50.1% from the field and 36.5% from three, with eight players averaging 7.0 or more points per game. Britt Prince leads the way with 18.2 points per game on 57.6% shooting.
Wisconsin trails 17-7 in the all-time series against Nebraska and is 5-7 at home. The Badgers look to pick up their first win against the Huskers since 2019.
3. IN THE RANKS:
Wisconsin leads the Big Ten and ranks 32nd nationally in three-point attempts per game (25.9) and sits first in the conference and 24th nationally in three-pointers made per game (8.9). The Badgers also rank 59th nationally in three-point percentage (34.3) and 31st nationally in free-throw percentage (76.9).
Individually, Destiny Howell leads Wisconsin with 14.5 points per game, shooting 46.1% from the field, and ranks among the Big Ten's top shooters in made threes. Ronnie Porter ranks sixth in the conference in assists (4.8 apg), while Gift Uchenna and Dorja Zaja help Wisconsin rank sixth in the Big Ten in blocks per game.
4. LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin defeated the Oregon Ducks in a double-overtime thriller, 94-92.
The Badgers shot 39.4% (28-71) from the field, 45.9% (17-37) from three-point range, and 77.8% (21-27) from the free-throw line. The Ducks finished the game shooting 46.3% (31-67) from the floor, 33.3% (10-30) from deep, and 76.9% (20-26) at the charity stripe.
Destiny Howell had a career day, scoring 39 points - the third-highest single-game total in Badgers history. Her 10 made three-pointers set a Wisconsin single-game record and tied for the third-best performance in Big Ten history. The Badgers also notched single-game program records with 17 made three-pointers and 21 made free throws.
