Harvey and Simms each net hat tricks on senior day
MADISON, Wis. — The No. 1 Wisconsin women's hockey team (22-1-2, 16-1-2) defeated Bemidji State at LaBahn Arena, collecting a 10-3 victory. Six seniors scored in the game after being honored in a senior day ceremony pregame.
Seniors Kirsten Simms and Caroline Harvey dominated the scoring during the Badger's brawl against Bemidji, each recording a six-point hat trick.
The Badgers and Beavers played a game of hot-potato in the first period, with three lead changes in the frame.
The Beavers struck first before Simms put the Badgers on the board with 7:57 remaining in the first.Â
With the Badgers down 3-2, UW found itself on a power play with just 12 seconds on the clock. Laila Edwards then one-timed a pass to tie things up with a buzzer-beating goal with two seconds remaining.
UW entered the second period on another power play and Harvey quickly gave the Badgers a 4-3 lead with her second goal of the game. When Wisconsin returned to even-strength play, it wasn't long before Simms scored with 15:04 remaining in the period, making it 5-3.
Harvey then earned her first career hat trick, closing out the period with an unassisted goal.
Simms caught the hat-trick fever in the next period, scoring the Badger's seventh goal less than two minutes into the third period.
A trio of Badger seniors then added to the festivities. Goaltender Chloe Baker went in net with nine minutes remaining, recording three saves in her second appearance of the season.Â
McKayla Zilisch, a senior transfer from Bemidji State, tallied her fourth goal of the season with 7:30 remaining, and then senior Claire Enright capped off the scoring for the Badgers and helped bring home a 10-3 win for UW.Â
The Badgers outshout the Beavers 55-18.

Head Coach Mark Johnson
On how the offense clicked:
"Through effort and being first on pucks, if you're willing to do that consistently then you are probably going to play in the offensive zone or at least get scoring opportunities out of it."
Caroline Harvey
On the back and forth first period:Â
"It was extra motivation, all of us felt the fire under us, and we felt we had to kick it into another gear. We needed to change the momentum of the game."
Kirsten Simms
On the senior experience:
"When you know that it's one of your last games in LaBahn and playing in front of that crowd, that sinks in a little bit because it's been such an incredible four years here. It's pretty special for us, and then getting to do it with the class that we have as well is super neat."
Notes to Know:
-
Caroline Harvey recorded her first career six-point game and hat trick. It's only the third time a UW defender has scored a hat trick, and Harvey is just the second defender to do so, joining Sis Paulsen.
-
Kirsten Simms scored her fourth career hat trick, and her second of the season. Her six-points on the day were also a career high.
-
Simms and Harvey are now the eighth and ninth Badgers to ever record six-or-more points in a game, joining Meghan Hunter, Emily Clark, Kelly Kegley, Hilary Knight, Casey O'Brien, Carolyne Prevost and Daryl Watts. O'Brien was the most recent of which, recorded her game against Bemidji State on 3/1/25.
-
Simms and Harvey also became the ninth duo to record a hat trick in the same game. Simms did so earlier this season with McKayla Zilisch against Stonehill on 11/30/25.
-
Lacey Eden (one goal, three assists) continues her team-best point streak at 11 games. In that span she has 11 goals and 16 assists.
-
This is UW's second double-digit scoring outing of the season, previously scoring 17 against Stonehill.
-
Freshman Adela Sapovalivova had a career high four assists and four points
