Badgers cruise past Broncos at Nielsen

Wisconsin earns 6-1 victory of Western Michigan
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin men's tennis team showed up Friday night against Western Michigan, earning an impressive 6-1 victory over the Broncos. The Badgers won a close doubles point and went on to win on five different singles courts en route to the team victory.
In doubles play, the partnership of Matthew Fullerton and Patrik Meszaros dominated on court three, earning a 6-2 victory over WMU's pairing. At No. 1 doubles Oliver Olsson and Tomas Zlatohlavek were bested by the No. 80 ranked partnership of Oscar Corwin and Alex Antonopoulos, 6-3.
With all eyes on court two, Ferdinand Kloesters and Michael Minasyan rose to the occasion. The match was four-all before the Badger duo pulled away and took the 6-4 victory, securing Wisconsin's first point.
In singles action, Zlatohlavek took advantage of his first appearance this spring. The junior earned a decisive 6-1, 6-2 straight set victory in the No. 5 slot. Meszaros improved to 3-1 this spring with a straight set victory over Western Michigan's Antonopoulos.
Sophomore Sachiv Kumar secured the team win with a straight set victory over Jack Davison at No. 6 singles. Ferdinand Kloesters improved to 2-0 at home with a straight set win at No. 4. Sophomore Edouard Aubert lost the first set at No. 3 singles, but was able to complete the comeback effort and earn his second victory of the spring.
Wisconsin improves to 3-1 this season.
Up Next: The Badgers host Omaha and Marquette in a double-header format on Sunday, Feb. 1 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium. The matches will start at noon CT and 5 p.m. CT, respectively. Sunday is also Family Fun Day at Nielsen Tennis Stadium!
