Five things to know: Men’s tennis plays three matches this weekend
January 26, 2026 | Men's Tennis
Wisconsin welcomes Western Michigan, Omaha, and Marquette
1 – HOW "SWEEP" IT IS – The Badgers opened 2026 play at Nielsen Tennis Stadium with a 7-0 victory over Chicago State last Friday. The Cougars forfeited a doubles match and a singles match due to an incomplete roster, however Wisconsin dominated in every match that was played. The Badgers quickly claimed the doubles point with a 6-1 win at No. 1 from Oliver Olsson and Tomas Zlatohlavek.
In singles play every Badger saw a straight set victory. Sophomore Ferdinand Kloesters impressed the home crowd with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Wisconsin did not drop a set and only dropped 15 games across seven matches against Chicago State.
2 – FAMILY FUN DAY – On Sunday, February 1 both the men's and women's tennis teams will be hosting a "Sunday Family Fun Day" at Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Action will begin at noon CT, but fans are encouraged to arrive early as the first 200 people will receive a Badger swirler flag. There will also be a post-match autograph session with both the men's and women's teams. As always, admission is free at Nielsen!
3 – KNOW YOUR OPPONENTS – UW is 12-5 in the all-time series against Western Michigan, with a 9-2 home record. The Badgers are currently on a four-match win streak, most recently besting the Broncos last season in 4-3 fashion. The Broncos are 5-1 this season and have two ranked doubles pairings (No. 64 and No. 80) in the Nov. 25 ITA rankings.
Sunday's match against Omaha marks the first in program history. The Mavericks are 0-3 through two weekends of action in 2026. Wisconsin's last match of the weekend is against in-state rival Marquette. In the all-time series the Badgers hold a decisive 57-3-1 edge, most recently earning a 5-2 victory last year. The Golden Eagles are 0-2 this season.
4 – FOLLOW THE ACTION – Wisconsin begins the three-match weekend with a contest against Western Michigan on Friday, Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m. CT. The Badgers will also play a double-header on Sunday, Feb. 1 against Omaha and Marquette. First serve is scheduled for noon CT and 5 p.m. CT, respectively.
