Hall’s hat trick allows Badgers to split series
MINNEAPOLIS — The No. 1 Wisconsin women's hockey team (24-2-2, 18-2-2) defeated the No. 3 Minnesota Gophers this Saturday, splitting the series at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis. Cassie Hall's hat trick led the Badgers to a 6-1 victory, bouncing back from yesterday's loss.Â
Senior Vivian Jungels scored twice to add to UW's total. Lacey Eden and Kelly Gorbatenko joined her with multi-point games.Â
Hall found the back of the net just under two minutes into the game. The Badgers jumped on a power play, and after a face-off win, Hall found the puck from Laney Potter to put the Badgers on the board just six seconds into the power play..
The streak continued as Jungels made it 2-0, scoring off a rebound.
Hall scored her second goal of the game just moments later, giving UW a 3-0 lead in the first. Kelly Gorbatenko forced a turnover on the forecheck, and found Cassie Hall on the 2-on-0 breakaway.
Maggie Scannell opened up the second period with an unassisted goal, making it 4-0. Scannell raced to track down a loose puck moving towards the Gopher's net, quickly collecting the puck and moving with her backhand to score.
Hall collected her second-ever career hat trick after receiving a pass from captain Lacey Eden. Eden went on to assist Jungels' second goal of the game, just moments later.Â
The Badgers were up 6-0 entering the third period before a Gopher was able to tally one. UW came out on top, 6-1, in the end.
The Badgers outshot the Gophers 35-25, and freshman goaltender Rhyah Stewart recorded 18 saves.Â
