UW loses to OSU for first time since 2024
MADISON, Wis — The No. 1 Wisconsin women's hockey team (24-3-2, 18-3-2) dropped to No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes at LaBahn Arena on Saturday, losing 4-1.
The Buckeyes scored early on, and the Badgers were unable to capitalize in the first twenty minutes of play. With just 40 seconds remaining, Ohio State took a 2-0 lead. In period one, the Buckeyes outshot UW 17-7 and freshman goaltender Rhyah Stewart made 15 saves, including five on an OSU power play.
The second period remained scoreless for both teams, but the Badgers tied up the shooting, ending in 24-24 for Wisconsin and Ohio State. There were five total penalties called in the second period.
The Buckeyes tallied one more goal in the third and final period of play before UW's Ava Murphy put the Badgers on the board with 2:58 remaining in the game. Murphy's goal was assisted by senior Claire Enright and sophomore Hannah Halverson.Â
The game marks Wisconsin's first loss against Ohio State since November of 2024. UW previously beat OSU this season 2-1 and 6-1.
Head Coach Mark Johnson
On tonight's loss:Â
"When you play someone that's as aggressive as they are, they're going to hem you in at times. The big thing is to try to eliminate some of the scoring chances that we gave up. That'll be the big thing tomorrow because we can't get in a game where we're gonna give up 38, 39, 40 shots and expect to survive it."

Up Next: The Badgers face the Buckeyes again tomorrow at 2 p.m. (CT) to close out the series.
