UW ties 1-1, falls in shootout
DULUTH, Minn. — The No. 1 Wisconsin women's hockey tied No. 8 Minnesota Duluth, 1-1 at AMSOIL arena in Duluth, Minn. this Friday. After a scoreless overtime, UMD took the extra point by winning the shootout, 1-0.
The Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead on just their second shot, the Badgers were unable to tie it up at the end of the first.
The second period was set up to end the same way, but with 3.9 seconds remaining in the second period, Caroline Harvey tied things up with a top-shelf, glove-side shot. The senior captain extended her point streak to 18 games, the second longest streak in the country.
A Bulldog seemingly scored on a breakaway in the third period, but the goal was ultimately revoked, and the score remained 1-1 with 13:40 remaining in the final period of regulation play.
The game went into overtime where neither team was able to capitalize. During a shootout to close the game, UMD came out on top.
Goaltender Ava McNaughton made 25 saves including the last 23 in a row against her.
The Badgers outshot the Bulldogs, 40-26.
