Has three siblings,Aaron Distler, Matthew Koester, Savannah Koester...Father, Nicholas, is a retired commander in the US Coast Guard...Koester is a two-time State All-Around Champion in gymnastics at Monroe High School.

"During my first season with Wisconsin Rowing I have learned that it means pushing yourself to be the best you can be and bring others with you on the way. I come from a very close-knit military family that has been through my mom’s cancer, my dad’s deployment’s and many moves. Wisconsin Rowing gives me that same feeling of family and teamwork and has truly felt like a home."
