MADISON, Wis. -- The fans may have not rushed the court, but the Wisconsin volleyball squad (12-7, 1-7) still earned a big win over Purdue (13-6, 4-4) on Sunday afternoon. The four set match, 25-22, 21-25, 25-16, 25-17, gave the Badgers their first Big Ten Conference win and broke a seven-match losing streak.

Wisconsin led the way with 59 total kills, .204 hitting percentage and 57 assists in the win. Purdue put down 43 kills and finished with a .131 hitting percentage. The Boilermakers finished with 12 blocks in comparison to the Badger's six.
Elise Walch led both teams with 14 while Allison Wack ended the day with 13 kills and 12 digs for a double-double. Janelle Gabrielsen also finished with a double-double putting up a match-high 50 assists and adding 10 digs.
The Badger defense finished with 21 more digs than the Boilermakers, led by a match-high 26 digs from Kim Kuzma. Annemarie Hickey added 10 digs and added four kills with a .444 hitting percentage.
Ariel Turner came up with a team high 13 kills for Purdue with Katie Griffin and Kristen Arthurs close behind with nine and seven kills, respectively. Anna Drewry made an impressive six blocks for the Boilermakers with five other teammates tying with three apiece.
The Badgers were led by Alexis Mitchell and Wack with three blocks apiece. Wisconsin also scored from the service line with three aces while the Boilers scored two aces.
Wisconsin wasted no time getting things started in the first set. Despite the close scoring, the Badgers were able get an early 15-12 lead. Five attack errors on the UW side gave Purdue a chance to come back, going on an 8-1 scoring run to take the 20-16 lead. Walch broke up the Boilermakers run with a huge kill and put the momentum back on Wisconsin's side.
The Badgers used that momentum to go on a 7-0 run with Ording finishing things off strong with two kills for the 25-22 win.
Both teams came out fighting in the second set and kept the score close with eight ties. After an 11-11 tie, the Boilermakers made a push with a 10-3 run, which Walch once again broke up with one of her set-high seven kills. The Badgers used that to tighten the score but were not able to finish things off like the previous set, falling in a close 25-21. Purdue outblocked Wisconsin 4-0 in the set to key the win.
The Badgers didn't back down after the loss but used it to push them in the third set. The score remained close once again with six ties. An 11-11 tie was the turning point once again but this time in Wisconsin's favor.
Mikaelsen came in for the Badgers and showed her power with two big kills giving Wisconsin the spark they needed. The 6-3 freshman had five kills in the set for the UW as it pulled ahead and took the 25-16 win.
Wisconsin found itself down 3-2 early in the fourth set but turned things around with a big 8-0 run to put the team up 10-3. Purdue answered back with a 4-0 run of its own to tighten the Badger's lead to 18-14.
Kills by Wack and Walch kept the momentum on the Badgers side and Wisconsin earned the win to end the match with a big kill by Mitchell.
The match gives the Badgers their first conference win of the season to end their weekend homestand. The team will hit the road next week traveling to Iowa on Friday and No. 19-ranked Minnesota on Sunday.
