MADISON, Wis. –- The Wisconsin men’s rowing team sent its novice rowers to the Head of the Eagle at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis for racing on Saturday.
Wisconsin entered boats in the men’s open novice eight, winning the A, B and C & D Finals.
In the A Final, Wisconsin A won in 12:18.89 against 15 other crews. The B Final saw Wisconsin B clock 12:34.39 to take the race over Wisconsin C, which timed 13:00.63. Nine boats competed in that race. Finally, Wisconsin B won the C & D Final in 12:44.83, with Wisconsin A (12:47.63) and Wisconsin C (13:29.22) completing a 1-2-3 Badger placement. Twelve boats competed in the C & D Final.
"The Class of 2014 had their first racing experience today and handled the conditions as best they could,” said freshman coach Matt Boyle. “Battling the wind and strong competition they were able to race with enthusiasm and purpose."
UW returns to the water on Sunday when both the varsity and novice men compete at the Head of the Iowa.
