COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Badgers wrapped up their four-match road swing with a heartbreaking five-set loss to the Buckeyes on Sunday. Ohio State (20-9, 8-8) came out on top with a 20-25, 25-22, 26-28, 25-22, 19-17 win over Wisconsin.

Wisconsin (15-12, 4-12) was led by sophomore Alexis Mitchell, who stepped up for a career-high 21 kills and an impressive match-high .500 hitting percentage. Janelle Gabrielsen put up a match-high 55 assists as the Badgers hit .179 compared to .192 for the Buckeyes.

Allison Wack and Julie Mikaelsen also recorded double digit kills for Wisconsin with 16 and 10, respectively. The pair also tied with Dominique Thompson with a team-high three blocks apiece as the Badgers had 10.5 stuffs.

Annemarie Hickey made a career-high four service aces while Kim Kuzma tied with a match-high 23 digs. Wack tallied a double-double as she added 11 digs.

The Buckeyes were led by Katie Dull, who made a match-high 24 kills, and tied with Emily Danks in blocks, each recording eight on the night. Kelli Barhorst and Allie Schwarzwalder added seven blocks apiece to Ohio State's 18 total blocks.

Anna Szerszen finished with 17 kills while Betsy Hone made 53 assists in the Buckeye win.

Wisconsin inched ahead of the Buckeyes with 66 kills compared to OSU's 64, while Ohio State finished ahead with 64 assists and 67 digs as the Badgers made 61 and 63, respectively.

The Badgers got off to a good start against the Buckeyes, taking the first set, 25-20, for a 1-0 lead in the match. Wisconsin answered back from an early 5-2 deficit to tie up the score six times before going on two runs, 4-1 and then 4-0, led by Bailey Reshel. The two Badger runs gave the team the set point at 24-18, but OSU fought back scoring two more points with a kill from Danks and then a block. Wackanswered back with a kill for the 25-20 win.

Mitchell stepped up big for the Badgers in the second set as UW found themselves down 20-14, despite a close start to the set. Mitchell led a 7-2 run for Wisconsin with three kills, to bring the Badger's deficit to one, 22-21. The Buckeyes capitalized on a Wisconsin service error and finished things off with a kill from Dull to take the 25-22 win and tie the match, 1-1.

The two teams found themselves in five tiesc early in the third set. OSU ended that at 6-6 by going on a 4-0 run and then a 5-1 run to bring the score to 15-9 in the Buckeyes favor. Wisconsin wasn't about to back down that easily though, as it answered back with a 6-2 run led by Wack bringing the score to 18-16.

Wisconsin and Ohio State continued a close set by tying up the score at 22-22. A Dull kill put the Buckeyes up but Hickey answered back with a kill of her own. An OSU error gave Wisconsin the set point at 24-23 but that was just the first of four set points for the Badgers. At 26-26, freshman Elise Walch gave the Badgers a big kill for another set point. A Buckeye hitting error gave Wisconsin the 28-26 third set win.

The fourth set looked similar to the second set as the two teams started off with four tied scores until the Buckeyes went on runs of 3-0 and 5-1 to go up 15-11. The Badgers fought back to tie up the score four more times, ending at 21-21. Ohio State took control with a 3-0 run led by Dull to give the team set point. A kill from Gabrielsen held OSU at set point, but Dull answered back with a kill for a 25-22 Buckeye win to take the match to a fifth set.

The fifth set started off like the third and fourth with six early ties until the Buckeyes were able to make a push at 10-9. A 4-1 run put Ohio State at match point at 14-10, but the young Badger squad showed their strength, holding off three match points. A 4-0 UW run capped off by a block from Wack, Mikaelsen and Thompson tied the set at 14.

An error on Wisconsin's side gave the Buckeyes another match point but Thompson tied the set up again with a kill. An error from Ohio State's Dull gave UW its first match point. A Buckeye kill tied the set up once again and a Wisconsin error gave OSU its sixth match point.

Wack denied that match point with a kill for a 17-17 tie but a block from the Buckeyes gave them the 18-17 lead. Wisconsin wasn't able to hold back Ohio State any longer as a Danks' kill finished off the 19-17 set and the match.

Wisconsin returns home next weekend for its final homestand of the season. The Badgers play host to border battle rival Minnesota on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and then Iowa on Saturday at 7 p.m.
