MADISON, Wis. -- In topping the 20-point plateau for the third-consecutive game, Jon Leuer again proved his ability to create scoring for Wisconsin.

Still, it was the Badgers' ability to limit Milwaukee's scoring opportunities that stood out Wednesday as the Badgers rolled to a 61-40 win over their in-state rival at the Kohl Center.

Junior guard Jordan Taylor scored 14 points and senior forward Keaton Nankivil had 10 on 5-for-6 shooting to join Leuer in double-figures, with the trio outscoring the Panthers for the game.

That's because points were hard to come by for Milwaukee (4-6), which was held to 30.8-percent shooting from the field and tallied only 15 points in the first half.

"The energy on defense was great, (the Panthers) have some guys that can come off some screens pretty hard who are quick with the ball, so I liked the way our guys handled that," UW head coach Bo Ryan said.

 Fast Facts
• Badgers hold Milwaukee to 15 points in first half
Jon Leuer posts third-straight 20-point game
• Badgers improve to 27-1 all-time vs. Milwaukee

The Badgers twice held Milwaukee to field-goal droughts of longer than eight minutes, including a dry spell of 8:08 in the first half that allowed UW to put together a 16-1 run and blow the game open.

The spurt turned a 5-2 edge for the Panthers into an 18-6 lead for Wisconsin. Milwaukee then scored five straight points to trim the deficit to seven, but the Badgers responded with another 16-4 run to close the half.

Milwaukee got no closer than 18 points in the second frame, going from the 13:47 mark of the period to the 2:07 mark without a field goal -- a drought of 11:40.

"For me, and as a team, it's just such a confidence-builder to know that you're doing something right on one end, keep the energy up and go do it on the other end," Nankivil said of UW's defense. "It could also work the other way, but I think for us as such a defensive-minded team, it definitely works that way."

In addition to stuffing the stat sheet with nine rebounds, three blocks and two assists, Nankivil helped hold Milwaukee's leading scorer, Anthony Hill, to a mere three points on 0-for-8 shooting from the floor.

"We saw some stuff on film about how he moved once he got the ball, so I was just trying to hold my ground as much as possible," Nankivil said.

Ja'Rob McCallum had a team-high 12 points on 6-for-12 shooting, but the Panthers' remaining four starters combined to go just 4-of-21 from the floor.

Leuer, the reigning Big Ten Player of the Week, added seven rebounds to go with three assists and a pair of blocks.

Taylor dished out six assists against a single turnover in 36 minutes of action.

As a team, the Panthers had just four assists to 15 turnovers.

The Badgers also owned the glass, hauling down 37 total rebounds to Milwaukee's 19. Of the Panthers' 27 missed field goals, the Badgers rebounded 25 - an outstanding defensive rebounding percentage of 92.6 percent.

After winning their 18th-consecutive game over the Panthers to tip off their run of three straight against in-state foes, the Badgers now make the short trip to Milwaukee to face Marquette on Saturday.

"It's fun for us to see the other in-state teams," Leuer said. "You want to have bragging rights I guess you could say, but at the same time you just have to approach it like every other game, and that is what we are trying to do."

Tip-off from the Bradley Center is set for 1:30 p.m., with the game airing live on ESPN2.
