WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The University of Wisconsin volleyball team remained undefeated on the year with a 3-0 win over William & Mary in the second round of the Tribe Invitational on Friday evening. The Badgers (2-0) swept the Tribe 25-18, 25-15, 25-17.
"It's always nice to win 3-0 especially against the home team when you're on the road, just to get used to different environments," said UW coach Pete Waite. "Each time we're just trying to clean up our serve receive, dig more balls and serve tough. Bit by bit we see things we're looking for and it's a nice start."

After struggling in the first set, hitting only .059, UW cleaned up its play in the second and third sets, finishing with a .218 team hitting percentage. Freshman Elise Walch led the Badgers with 11 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Senior Allison Wack added eight kills while three other players finished with five-or-more kills.
Wisconsin tallied 40 team kills while William & Mary (0-2) put away only 24 kills and hit a negative .020 for the match. The Tribe was led by Paulette Grand Pre with seven kills.
"It was a good opportunity again for our team to get out there and continue to get a feel for each other on the court," said Waite. "Elise Walch came through again offensively, leading us in kills. Kim Kuzma did a better job on defense while Allison (Wack) and Annemarie (Hickey) kept them on their toes with their jump serves.
"Overall, I think we get a little stronger each time and getting to know each other on the court and that's what our goal is."
The Badgers finished with a 44-37 edge in digs and a 9-6 advantage in blocks. Kuzma led all players with 19 digs while Janelle Gabrielsen added 11 digs. Gabrielsen put up 28 assists in running the UW offense.
Gabrielsen, Alexis Mitchell and Dominique Thompson all had three blocks for the Badgers.
Wisconsin improved its service tonight, recording three aces, including two from Hickey, and only five errors. The Tribe had two aces.
The Badgers could wrap up the tournament title on Saturday when they take on Seton Hall (1-1) at 11:30 a.m. The Pirates edged William & Mary 3-2 on Friday morning before losing to Winthrop 3-2 on Friday evening.
"Seton Hall has gone five their first two matches of the tournament," said Waite. "We know they're a team that plays hard and can go the distance. We want to finish strong and improve our play from the first two matches."
