MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Led by a career-high 13 kills from freshman Julie Mikeaelsen, the Wisconsin volleyball team remained undefeated with a 25-17, 22-25, 25-14, 25-20 win over Central Michigan at the Milwaukee Invitational. The Badgers improve to 8-0 on the season, the fifth-best start in program history.

 Fast Facts
• Mikaelsen leads Badgers with career best 13 kills
• Gabrielsen leads team with career high 18 digs
•Chippewas record 16 service errors

"I really liked how we came out, winning 25-17 in the first set was really nice, but now it's staying consistent from set to set," said UW Coach Pete Waite. "I think Central Michigan picked it up some in the second set but we made a few more errors. That's the thing, not giving points away to teams and ending with a three-point loss in that set.

"But then, I liked coming back strong 25-14 (in the third set). That says a lot, sending a message to the other team that `Hey, we're not done here' and we got our game back on track."

Wisconsin won the match from the service line. Despite recording only three aces, the Badgers forced the Chippewas out of their offense with their tough serving. Central Michigan (4-4) hit .187 for the match while Wisconsin connected on 25.6 percent of its attacks.

"What really stood out to me was our serving," said Waite."Even though we really didn't have big service ace totals, we really kept them out of their offense quite a bit. They're a team that runs a lot of different offensive plays and we kept them off the net and they had trouble running their offense."

CMU also gave the UW 16 points as the Chippewas recorded 16 service errors.

"In the rally scoring game, those are all free points," said Waite. "We'll take that anytime we can get it. There were times they let us off the hook. We might have made an error and they gave (the ball) right back to us."

In addition to Mikaelsen, senior Allison Wack added 12 kills as the Badgers finished with a 57-41 advantage in kills. Freshman Elise Walch added nine kills while sophomore Alexis Mitchell and freshman Dominique Thompson both chipped in eight kills.

Central Michigan was led by Kaitlyn Schultz with 12 kills while Lauren Krupsky added 11 kills.

"That was part of our game plan," said Waite of Mikaelsen's play. "We felt watching video tape on Central Michigan that they really kick out their middle blockers to our left-side attackers, which really opens things up for Julie on our right side."

The Badgers also finished with 58 digs, led by a career-best 18 from Janelle Gabrielsen. Kim Kuzma added 13 digs for the Badgers, who had 20 more saves than the Chippewas.

Wisconsin was outblocked 8-5 by Central Michigan. The Badgers were led by Dominique Thompson and Mikaelsen with three blocks apiece.

UW wraps up the tournament, taking on Toledo at 5:30 p.m. today in UW-Milwaukee's Klotsche Center.
