NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Wisconsin women’s soccer team (3-3-2) notched its third-straight win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Vanderbilt (4-4-0) on Sunday.

Although the Commodores outshot the Badgers 6-4 in the first half, UW scored twice and shut out Vanderbilt in the first 45 minutes to mark its first multi-goal game of the season at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex. The first half also sealed the Badgers fourth-straight shutout.
“I think it’s a great credit to our team to get another win, especially with two road games this weekend,” Wisconsin head coach Paula Wilkins said. “I think that the effort they put forth defensively was a team effort, and I give a lot of credit to our back four. Our offense also played great, and it’s great to finally get more than one goal over an opponent.”
Junior co-captain Laurie Nosbusch (Mequon, Wis.) opened the Badgers’ scoring with her third goal of the season in the 32nd minute. Off an assist from fellow junior Erin Jacobsen (Wheaton, Ill.), Nosbusch beat Vanderbilt’s goalkeeper on a low shot that skimmed the near post into the back of the net. Jacobsen’s assist marks her first point of the season.
Just six minutes later, sophomore Lindsey Hamann (Cedarburg, Wis.) served the ball down the right side of the field to junior Lauren Cochlin (Owatonna, Minn.). Cochlin used her speed to dribble past two Commodore defenders and fired the ball into the back of the net from the six-yard box to give the Badgers’ the 2-0 advantage and slate her first career goal. The goal also marked Hamann’s first collegiate points.
Wisconsin senior goalkeeper Michele Dalton notched her third-straight shutout of the season with six saves against Vanderbilt. The Mt. Prospect, Ill., native is now 3-2-1 overall for the Cardinal and White.
“Michele was outstanding today,” Wilkins said. “She made two great breakaway saves. Her positioning was very good the entire game. At the end of the game, she also made a great one-on-one save to keep the score at zero and give us another shutout.”
Goalkeeper Rachel Bachtel finished with one save for the Commodores and is now 4-4-0 overall.
After two meetings, Wisconsin is now 1-0-1 all-time with Vanderbilt.
The Commodores outshot the Badgers 10-6 in 90 minutes of play.
The Badgers kick-off Big Ten play with a pair of road games next weekend. Wisconsin faces Purdue at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and travels to Bloomington, Ind., to battle the Indiana Hoosiers at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
