WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - After 110 minutes of scoreless play, the Wisconsin women's soccer team tied Purdue, 0-0, in its Big Ten Conference season opener on a windy Friday afternoon at the Varsity Soccer Complex.

 Fast Facts
• The Badgers are riding a five-game shutout streak
• Dalton advanced her shutout streak to four games
• Wisconsin outshot Purdue 12-10

The scoreless tie advances the Badgers' (3-3-3, 0-0-1 Big Ten) shutout streak to five games and Wisconsin senior goalkeeper Michele Dalton's (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) to four.

Although Dalton notched three saves to help the Badgers garner another shutout, the entire team helped hold the Boilermakers (4-5-2, 0-0-1 Big Ten) scoreless after two overtime periods.

"Our defense had good pressure on the ball," Wisconsin head coach Paula Wilkins said. "We did a great job of marking in the box. Erin (Jacobsen) did a good job with the midfielders and keeping them in front of our line. I think she did a great job of not only stopping entry passes, but also distributing them. We were able to keep them in front of us and that really helped."

The Badgers outshot Purdue 12-10 in the contest, with their most promising scoring opportunities coming during regulation play.

In the first half, junior Leigh Williams (Tomball, Texas) connected with junior co-captain Laurie Nosbusch (Mequon, Wis.). Nosbusch ripped a shot that forced Purdue goalkeeper Carianne Betts, who finished with five saves in the contest, to make a diving save.

Wisconsin had another chance at net with less than a minute left in regulation play. Sophomore Alev Kelter (Eagle River, Alaska) headed a cross that skimmed just over the crossbar to send the game into overtime.

However, after 20 minutes of extra play, the game resulted in a 0-0 draw.

"I think we showed some good things," Wilkins said. "I was happy with the way that we played, but we need to be more consistent in the other team's half of the field and we need to have patience when we are in their final third. However, the defense did a good job of getting into the attack. Collectively, we did a good job of playing as a cohesive unit."

UW's current shutout streak is the tied for the best since 1991, when the Badgers opened and finished the season with a pair of six-game shutout streaks. Wisconsin also posted five-straight shutouts in 1995.

The Badgers wrap up the weekend with their second game of the Big Ten season at Indiana on Sunday at 12 p.m. The last time the Badgers faced the Hoosiers was in 2009 when Wisconsin slated a 3-2 win to extend its all-time record against IU to 9-8-2.
