MADISON, Wis. -- In Wisconsin's first match of the 19th-annual InnTowner Invitational, the Badgers defeated Duquesne in three-straight sets 25-23, 25-16, and 25-22 in the UW Field House to improve to 4-0 on the season.

The Badgers dominated the Dukes in attacking with a .172 hitting percentage, while Duquesne only hit for a positive percentage in the third set.
The UW offense was led by senior Allison Wack with 13 kills and true freshman Elise Walch with 11. Junior Janelle Gabrielsen finished the match with a total of 37 assists, the most by a setter in the tournament so far.
The Badgers finished the match with 47 kills, while Duquesne had 28. The Dukes were led by Nicole Wright with 10 kills and Liz Homan with six.
Senior Kim Kuzma had a match-high 15 digs, but the Dukes just edged out the Badgers with 47 digs compared to its 46. Duquesne's Amy Palko registered 13 digs.
Wisconsin put up nine team blocks in the match and Duquesne recorded eight. Sophomore Alexis Mitchell led all players with a season-high six stuffs, while Homan scored five blocks.
Despite a 17-error set, Wisconsin was able to pull out a 25-23 victory in the first. Six different Badgers contributed to a total of 13 kills, while the Dukes buried only six hits and hit a negative .033 for the period.
In the second set, Wisconsin got back on track, recording only eight errors and hitting for a .244 hitting percentage. Duquesne hit negative for the second-straight set.
The Dukes got into a groove in the third set, attacking for a .237 hitting percentage, but the Badgers topped that with 18 kills in the set alone. After a kill by Wack, Wisconsin had game point, 24-19. The Dukes followed a kill with a three-point run to make the score 24-22. But Wack finally put the ball away from the back row to take the set and the match.
Duquesne will face Loyola on Saturday at 10 a.m. and Wisconsin takes on Chicago State at noon in the second round of the InnTowner Invitational.
