MADISON, Wis. -- At first, the Wisconsin volleyball team played like the group that upset a ranked Ohio State squad earlier in the season.
As the match went on, however, the 22nd-ranked Buckeyes proved to be too much, beating the Badgers 20-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-21 to earn the season split.
Wisconsin (13-12, 5-8) has now lost three straight matches, its longest losing streak of the season.

Freshman Ellen Chapman led the Badgers with 11 kills, her sixth straight match with more than 10 putaways. Junior Alexis Mitchell finished with eight kills, five of which came in the first set. Ohio State’s Emily Danks had 15 kills to lead all players as one of three Buckeyes with double-digit kills.
Ohio State kept Wisconsin to a .098 (44 kills – 30 errors – 143 attempts) hitting percentage, its second-lowest mark of the season. The Buckeyes didn't fare much better, hitting .168 (52-28-143) as a team.
Despite Ohio State getting a slight edge in total digs at 59-54, sophomore Annemarie Hickey led all players with 22 saves. Sarah Mignin had a team-high 16 for OSU. Wisconsin was also outblocked 14.0- 11.5. Mitchell led the Badgers with five stuffs.
The Badgers got things started in the first set with a service ace from Chapman and an OSU attack error to go up 2-0. Ohio State tied the score at 2-2 before Wisconsin went on an 8-1 run to take a 15-6 lead. The Buckeyes used a 3-0 run to cut the Badgers' lead to two (22-20) but UW scored three straight points, including two kills from Chapman, to win the set.
The second set started with six straight ties before the Buckeyes used a 5-1 run to take a 11-7 lead, their first of the match. The Badgers pulled within one point (15-14) but OSU again pulled ahead with a 3-0 run. Wisconsin scored on kills from freshman Courtney Thomas and sophomore Dominique Thompson to keep the set alive at 24-20 and force an Ohio State timeout before the Buckeyes responded with a kill to take the set.
The Badgers took the lead early in the third set (6-2) before Ohio State rallied to tie the score at 7-7 on a service ace from Davionna DiSalvatore. The two teams would tie the set five more times before OSU capitalized on several UW attack errors to go up 17-14. Wisconsin cut the Buckeyes' lead to two points (17-15) but OSU would outscore the Badgers 8-3 to win the period.
The Badgers fell into a hole early in the fourth set, trailing 15-5. Ohio State kept Wisconsin to its lowest hitting percentage during the match at .026 (11-10-38). The Badgers scored three straight points, including two off of blocks from Thomas and Mitchell, to cut OSU's lead to 18-12. Wisconsin also put together a 5-0 run with two straight service aces from Hickey to trail 20-18, but UW's rallying efforts came too late as Ohio State scored five of the last eight points for the win.
Wisconsin looks to turn things around against No. 6 Penn State on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the UW Field House.
