MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin volleyball team went 5-3, competing in five matches, at the UNI Spring Invitational in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on Saturday.
Wisconsin opened the day splitting sets vs. Northern Illinois. The Badgers won the first set 26-24 but dropped the second set 25-22. Alexis Mitchell returned to the UW lineup, putting away seven kills and hitting .455 (7-2-11). Kristy Bourquin and Julie Mikaelsen both added six kills as Bourquin led the Badgers, hitting .625 (6-1-8).
UW played one set vs. Drake, winning 25-20. Dominique Thompson put away four kills to lead the Badgers while hitting a team-high .800 (4-0-5). Crystal Graff added three kills for Wisconsin.
The Badgers swept South Dakota State 25-19, 25-21. Mary Ording and Mitchell both put away eight kills while Graff added six kills and Mikaelsen had five putaways. Mitchell hit .700 (8-1-10) while Ording hit .615 (8-0-13) to lead the team.
Wisconsin dropped two sets vs. Northern Iowa (25-21, 25-21) despite 12 kills from Graff. The freshman hit .435 (12-2-23) in the match. Thompson added seven kills for the Badgers.
UW wrapped up the day with a 25-20 win over North Dakota State. Three UW players had four kills apiece as Bailey Reshel, Graff and Bourquin led the team. Graff hit .800 (4-0-5) in the set while Reshel hit .667 (4-0-6).
The Badgers wrap up their spring season next Saturday, competing at the Minnesota Spring Invitational in Minneapolis.
