MADISON, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin volleyball team wrapped up its spring season at the Golden Gopher Spring Invitational on Saturday in Minneapolis. The Badgers went 3-1 on the day, sweeping North Dakota and Iowa, downing North Dakota State in three sets and losing to Minnesota.
UW opened the day with a 25-18, 25-16 win over North Dakota. Alexis Mitchell and Dominique Thompson led the Badgers with six kills apiece. Mitchell hit an impressive .750 (6-0-8) in the match. Freshman Crystal Graff added five kills to the Wisconsin offense.
The Badgers swept Big Ten Conference foe Iowa 25-19, 25-12 in their second set. Graff hammered down 11 kills in the match, hitting .500 (11-0-22). Julie Mikaelsen added six kills for the UW.
After losing the first set vs. North Dakota State 25-23, the Badgers bounced back to win the second set 25-13 and the third set 16-14. The Badgers were led by Mikaelsen, who put away 13 kills and hit .346. Graff added nine kills and Mary Ording chipped in seven kills for the UW.
UW wrapped up the day with a 25-22, 25-18 loss to host Minnesota. Bailey Reshel led Wisconsin with seven kills, hitting .353 (7-1-17), while Thompson added six kills.
On the day, Mikealsen and Graff both had 30 kills.
Wisconsin begins practicing for the 2011 fall season in August. The UW schedule should be available in May.
