MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin softball team was limited to just three hits in a 1-0, shutout loss to Minnesota in game one of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Goodman Diamond.
Shannel Blackshear had two of the three hits for Wisconsin (22-18, 2-7), but Sara Moulton struck out seven in a complete-game effort for the Gophers (26-18, 4-5).

"Their pitcher is very good," Wisconsin head coach Yvette Healy said. "We knew it was going to be tough to get something going against her. We had a couple of opportunities but, against pitchers like that, you only have one or two chances and we just weren't able to get the runs across."
Minnesota scored the only run of the game in the first inning.
With one out, Dannie Skrove reached on a bunt single. She then stole second before Kari Dorle walked. Alex Davis then singled to the hole at shortstop. Stephanie Peace made a nice diving stop for the Badgers but had no throw. With the bases loaded, Sarah DuPaul drew a five-pitch walk from UW starter Cassandra Darrah to bring in the run.
Wisconsin was able to avoid further damage though as Shannel Blackshear fielded a grounder and started a 5-2-3 double play to end the inning.
The Badgers' best scoring chance came in the fifth inning.
Mary Massei, playing in her first game since suffering three facial fractures following a collision at Penn State on March 26, led off and tripled to deep center. She was forced to remain at third though as Michelle Mueller and Jordan Skinner each grounded out to second base.
Whitney Massey pinch hit for Darrah and kept the inning alive as she drew a walk to put runners on the corners. Massey was then able to steal second base to put a pair in scoring position for Kendall Grimm.
On a 1-2 pitch, it appeared as though Grimm was hit by a pitch to fill the bases. However, Minnesota claimed that Grimm actually went around with her swing on the pitch. After an appeal, the call was overturned and Grimm was called out on strikes.
Despite taking the loss and falling to 12-7 on the year, Darrah kept Wisconsin in the contest as she threw her 14th complete game of the season. The freshman surrendered the lone run while striking out five and walking six. She scattered four hits over her seven innings.
