MADISON, Wis. -- Prior to their Big Ten opener next week, the Badgers had one last chance to fine tune any deficiencies in their final non-conference tilt.
Wisconsin made sure it ended 2012 on a high note, routing the visiting Samford Bulldogs, 87-51, at the Kohl Center on Saturday.
Mike Bruesewitz returned to the starting lineup in style, scoring 13 points, including nine in the first five minutes of action as the Badgers jumped out to a 13-2 advantage early and did not look back.
Bruesewitz, whose total was a season high, was one of five players in double figures for the Badgers (9-4). He sustained a concussion in practice on Dec. 6, missed two games and came off the bench last Saturday in a win over Milwaukee.
“Well, it just goes to show how important (Bruesewitz) is to this team," UW head coach Bo Ryan said. "With the energy that he brings and when he’s feeling better -- I don’t know if he’s 100 percent yet -- but, at least in practice the past two days I saw some real good signs."

Frank Kaminsky poured in a career-best 16 points, while Ryan Evans added 14 points and 12 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.
Sam Dekker scored 12 and Jared Berggren rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 for Wisconsin, which opened up a 30-point lead before halftime.
Kaminsky, who guided Wisconsin to a 38-3 advantage in bench points, went 6-for-7 (.857) from the field in just 12 minutes of action, including a perfect 4-for-4 effort from beyond the arc.
The Badgers finished with a season-low six turnovers and ended the first half with 10 assists and zero giveaways.
Raijon Kelly scored 16 points to lead the Bulldogs (3-11), who missed their first five shots and trailed 13-2 just more than 5 minutes into the game.
The Badgers open Big Ten play Jan. 3 at home against Penn State.
“There were some things I saw today -- the extra passes and making pretty good decisions, especially in that first half," Ryan said. "It’s something to build on. But, as we know with Penn State, it’s not a new coach this year, so they’re doing a lot of the same things.
"It’s pretty much that way throughout the league -- you’re going to be playing people who are pretty much doing the same things that they’ve been doing.”
