MADISON, Wis. -The University of Wisconsin volleyball team finished third in the Great Lakes Center Collegiate Challenge on Saturday in Aurora, Ill.

The Badgers won their pool in the morning, defeating Tianjin of China 26-24, 25-23 and Bradley 25-22, 25-23. Freshman Ellen Chapman and junior Bailey Reshel led the UW with 13 and 10 kills, respectively, against the Chinese team. Both hit better than .400 with Reshel at .474 (10-1-19) and Chapman hitting .455 (13-3-22). Sophomore Annemarie Hickey keyed the defense with nine digs while Reshel chipped in eight saves. Hickey also had three service aces for Wisconsin.

Against Bradley, Reshel put away 13 kills, hitting .435 (13-3-23). Hickey led UW with 11 digs while freshman Deme Morales added six digs. The defensive duo also had two aces apiece.

The pool victory sent Wisconsin to the gold division playoff, facing Big Ten Conference foes Michigan State and Illinois. UW fell to Michigan State 25-23, 25-11 before bouncing back to down Illinois in three sets, 24-26, 25-22, 15-13.

The Badgers struggled on offense against the Spartans as Reshel led UW with seven kills. Hickey had 12 digs on defense while junior Alexis Mitchell had three blocks for Wisconsin.

UW came back against the Illini with Chapman putting away 12 kills and sophomore Julie Mikaelsen adding nine kills. Mikaelsen hit a team-best .500 (9-0-18) for the Badgers. Hickey turned in her best defensive performance of the day with 15 digs while Mitchell keyed the Wisconsin block with seven stuffs.

The Badgers wrap up their spring season Saturday, April 21, competing at the Northern Iowa Spring Invitational in Cedar Falls, Iowa, against Iowa, Minnesota, Northern Iowa and Northwestern.
