MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Following a pair of overtime wins last week, Wisconsin has become all too familiar with pulling out a clutch basket in winning time.
The stage was set for yet another thrilling victory for the Badgers, who played their third consecutive overtime game for the first time in school history, but this time the ball did not roll in their favor as Minnesota (18-7, 6-6) pulled out the 58-53 win at Williams Arena on Thursday.
Despite a valiant effort from freshman Sam Dekker who tallied a game-high 14 points and four rebounds off the bench, the Badgers (17-8, 8-4) were unable to protect their four-game win streak over the Gophers.
Ben Brust added 11 points for the Badgers, while senior Jared Berggren posted nine points and nine rebounds for UW.

Wisconsin held a 49-47 advantage and regained possession following a heady play from senior Mike Bruesewitz who drew a charge on Minnesota’s Austin Hollins with 22.6 seconds remaining. Bruesewitz’s glory was short-lived as the senior turned the ball over on the ensuing inbounds play as he attempted to run the baseline, a move only allowed following an opponent’s made basket.
Joe Coleman nailed a pair of free throws for the Gophers to tie the game at 49-49 with 17 seconds left and Traevon Jackson’s off-balance jumper as time expired was wide left, as the Badgers entered familiar territory for the third-straight time.
The Gophers outscored UW 5-0 in the first four minutes of overtime and sealed the win with a pair of free throws from Andre Hollins, who netted seven of his game-high 21 points in the extra session. Austin Hollins added 11 points, while Trevor Mbakwe posted 10 points for the Gophers.
Wisconsin returns home to take on Ohio State on Sunday, Feb. 17. Tip-off is slated for noon (CT) on CBS.
