With the Badgers (27-5 overall, 5-2 Big Ten) mounting a comeback in the top of the seventh, rain forced a stoppage in play. Wisconsin had rallied back from a 1-0 deficit to tie the game 1-1 in the top of the sixth. Shannel Blackshear lead off the inning with a double and the tying run was scored when Kendall Grimm singled up the middle two batters later.
A sloppy third inning allowed the Gophers (22-12, 5-2) to take an early 1-0 lead. With two outs, Minnesota's Kaitlyn Richardson singled to right field and took advantage of a Badger error to move to second. Richardson scored the unearned run when Bree Blanchette singled up the middle.
Stephanie Peace was at the plate with a 2-1 count when the game went into delay. After a 2.5 hour break, Peace stepped in and singled to lead off the top of the seventh. A sacrifice bunt by Whitney Massey moved into scoring position for Blackshear. Blackshear grounded out to third for the second out and the Badgers' rally was stopped when Peace as picked off of second.
The Gophers jumped all over the Badgers' missed opportunity in the bottom of the inning. With one out, Tyler Walker singled up the middle. Walker then stole second to put herself into scoring position for Kari Dorle. With a 3-1 count, Dorle doubled down the left field line, scoring Walker from second and ending the game in favor of Minnesota, 2-1.
Cassandra Darrah suffered her third loss of the season, pitching 6.1 innings, striking out five and allowing eight hits.
Minnesota's Sarah Moulton earned her 19th win of the season in 7.0 innings of work. Moulton gave up six hits, allowed three walks and struck out four.
The series will be decided on Sunday, as the Badgers and Gophers are scheduled to play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
