MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men's soccer team suffered another heartbreaking defeat, falling to Michigan in overtime, 2-1, at the McClimon Complex on Saturday night.
The Badgers (1-7-1, 0-3-0 Big Ten) captured the game's first lead late in the 80th minute on a goal from Jacob Brindle, but the Wolverines (2-5-2, 1-1-2 Big Ten) were quick to respond and found the equalizer in the 83rd minute on the foot of James Murphy to force overtime.
In extra time, Rylee Woods scored the golden goal on a free kick in the 99th minute and clinched the road victory for the Wolverines.
It marked the fourth time this season that Wisconsin has lost a game decided by one goal.
"We had some good attacks tonight that with a little bit of a better pass or a little bit better of a finish and we probably get a goal," UW head coach John Trask said. "Soccer can be a cruel game sometimes. Our guys are living it right now."

Despite outshooting the Wolverines 19-10, Saturday night's contest proved to be just another tight match for UW. The Badgers fell to 1-3-1 at home this season in the defeat, and 0-2-1 in overtime games.
Freshman keeper Adrian Remeniuk (1-4-0) made his first start for Wisconsin since Sept. 7 and matched a career-high four saves, but allowed two goals on the night.
Brindle opened up the scoring with his second goal of the season by finishing off an endline ball at back post. Tom Barlow tallied the assist on the score, his third of the season.
With five shots, Brindle reached a season-high total and also had two shots on goal in the loss. Drew Conner — who played the full 99 minutes — and freshman forward Barlow each finished with three shots.
The response by Michigan came shortly after Brindle’s goal, as Murphy beat Remeniuk off the post from the top of the box on an unassisted run.
Woods scored the game-winner for the Wolverines near the end of the first overtime period, curling the ball on a free kick from 30 yards out and scoring in the side backpost through traffic.
Wisconsin hosts Green Bay next Tuesday for a 7 p.m. kickoff at the McClimon Complex.
