Sam Dekker added 15 points for the Badgers, while Daniel Camps led the Norse with eight points.
Though the Badgers hit just less than half of their shots overall, they weren't sharp from 3-point range. They hit just 4 of 17, good for only 24 percent.
Fast Facts | • Badgers open regular season with win for 13th-straight season. | • Frank Kaminsky notches his third-career double-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds. | • Wisconsin held Northern Kentucky to 31 points, the fewest UW has given up since Nov. 22, 2011, vs. UMKC. | |
Northern Kentucky, meanwhile, wasn't sharp from anywhere. The Norse shot just 26 percent, including 2 of 16 from long range.
The Badgers return more than 80 percent of their scoring, rebounding and assists from a team that last season averaged 73.5 points a game and reached the Final Four. But they weren't as sharp as they should have been offensively against a physically overmatched team.
The Norse were at a height disadvantage with just two starters listed as taller than 6-foot-4, while the Badgers only had one listed as shorter than that - the 6-3 Traevon Jackson. But Northern Kentucky had some success contesting drives.
The Badgers haven't been afraid to take 3-pointers under coach Bo Ryan, averaging 21 a game last season. But they also hit almost 35 percent of them.
